The fate of The Mandalorian on Disney+ has been shrouded in mystery ever since The Mandalorian and Grogu was announced in January.

As production on the movie nears completion, a new rumor may give fans anxious to know whether they'll ever get to spend 8 weeks glued to their Disney+ app for a weekly dose of Din Djarin and Grogu some hope again.

Via The Direct, industry insider Jeff Sneider recently revealed that The Mandalorian Season 4 remains in development at Lucasfilm and may hit the platform at some point in the future.

"According to a report from The InSneider, The Mandalorian Season 4 may not be dead at Disney+. He noted that the follow-up remains "in development" for streaming, but 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' will "arrive first" in theaters."

Just a heads up again that this is just a rumor, and this, plus all prior rumors that Season 4 would be released as The Mandalorian and Grogu, are unconfirmed. Lucasfilm, Jon Favreau, and Dave Filoni haven't confirmed or denied whether there will be more seasons. Favreau and Filoni have maintained a weird silence regarding the future of the series, which remains the most-watched original series on Disney+. However, months before the announcement of the Mando movie, Favreau had confirmed that he had completed the scripts for Season 4.

After Disney announced the movie, the assumption was that Season 4 would be reshaped for the big screen. Although this is possible, there's still a chance that Season 4 will go into production at some point, and the movie will be a separate adventure for Din and Grogu. Whatever the case, Lucasfilm should announce if there will be more seasons during next year's Star Wars Celebration in Japan.

Such an announcement would instill confidence in fans that their favorite characters will be around for a long time and may increase anticipation for the movie, which could set up an even more thrilling Season 4, should it happen.

Regardless of what Jon Favreau is cooking, it must be noted that The Mandalorian Season 3 was never announced as the show's final season, and ending Disney+'s most-watched original series abruptly wouldn't be a good look. If the show ends, it should be sent off properly, with clarity on Season 4 being the series finale.

The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+, and The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres on May 22, 2026.
