Clone Force 99 is a unique and lovable group of chaos-bringing clones. Among them, Tech is often cited as a fan favorite. He became relatable to many fans who saw themselves in him while drawing parallels to Tech's story and neurodivergent traits. Many were -- and still are -- devastated that his story did not end happily in The Bad Batch.
Just because his story ended there on the linear Star Wars timeline, however, doesn't mean Tech is gone for good. In fact, Lucasfilm and its creative partners -- especially in publishing -- has made a genuine effort to continue including Tech in more stories since his death. Here's a quick rundown of how that's happened so far, in case you've missed it.
Tech, Plan 99, and Star Wars' commitment to fatal sacrifice
It's a common joke among Star Wars fans that if you never see a body, the person that body belongs to could still be alive. The Bad Batch pushed back against this idea in season 3 when it kept Tech out of the picture despite never showing him actually die. Whether or not you still believe he could be out there somewhere, the show really made an effort to make the character's sacrifice mean something.
As heartbroken as many fans still are that Tech is gone, it's also true that no one is ever really gone in Star Wars. Storytellers don't have to magically bring characters back to life Darth Maul-style to include them in more stories. All they have to do is write stories that take place during a point when certain characters were still among the living.
Star Wars does not tell stories linearly; it never has. That's why, even though audiences began mourning the loss of Tech years ago, he's not actually gone. Depending on where a story is told on the Star Wars timeline, technically, anyone can come back to life. Take The Bad Batch: Ghost Agents as a recent example.
Although the comic miniseries within the larger Hyperspace Stories storytelling umbrella ended in July 2025, it's never too late to explore the five-issue storyline featuring Tech and his brothers -- including Crosshair! -- hunting down an agent on behalf of the Republic. You can never have too much Tech -- which is why it's a good thing he is also a primary character in Random House Worlds' first book featuring Clone Force 99.
The story of Star Wars: Sanctuary - A Bad Batch Novel, out August 2025, takes place prior to the climactic events leading to Tech's untimely death. Lamar Giles' book follows Omega, Tech, Hunter, and Wrecker on a dangerous mission to obtain the necessary funds for Pabu's reconstruction. This is Clone Force 99, though; things are bound to get interesting.
Sanctuary accomplishes something not as easily attainable in a TV show: It gives Tech the space and time to grow and evolve. Giles further explores Tech's budding relationship with Phee and his attempts to communicate with his brothers and those around him. Tech may no longer be alive when The Bad Batch series ends, but stories such as this one allow him to live on in new and interesting ways.
