Atomic Mass Games, the makers of the popular wargame Star Wars: Legion, revealed back in late March at AdeptiCon that Star Wars: Legion would be getting four new one-player army sets. When they were shown off, AMG listed fall as the release window for the four starter sets, and with fall now being a couple of months away, we finally have release dates for the starter sets.
While these release dates are UK-specific, as mentioned over on Wargamer, the US and UK release dates for Star Wars: Legion are in tandem with each other again and will more than likely release on the same day in both countries. Two starter sets will be released in September, with the final two sets releasing under a month later in the best month of all, October.
The first two starter sets to be released will be the Galactic Empire: Starter Set and the Rebel Alliance: Starter Set. Both of these sets will be released on September 19, which is a little over two months away. Darth Vader will be leading a box full of stormtroopers, while Luke Skywalker will be the leader of a ragtag box full of rebel soldiers.
Luckily, players who want to play droids and/or clones won't need to wait long, as the Galactic Republic: Starter Set and the Separatist Alliance: Starter Set will be launching on October 17th. Famous cyborg warrior General Grievous will be the leader who comes with the Separatist Alliance box, while the Galactic Republic one gets two heroes. The main hero in the box is the Soresu-master himself, Obi-Wan Kenobi, while a second Jedi will also be coming in the box to act as a minor hero.
One of the biggest reasons why so many fans, myself included, are excited for the new starter sets is that they're releasing them in hard plastic, which means they're going to be easier to build and glue together.
For the UK, picking up a starter set will cost around 85 pounds, and consumers in the US will be paying about $95. All things considered, this is actually a really good deal, especially considering the prices of some other wargames are closer to $200.
I'm still on a pretty good Andor kick right now and plan to pick up a Rebel Alliance: Starter Set, and then in October will 100% be picking up a Galactic Republic one.
