Ever since A New Hope was released in theaters in 1977, Star Wars fans have loved Han Solo and Greedo for decades. They have asked questions about the small supporting characters (or "Glup Shitto" as they're now lovingly called) in each film since. The trilogy of books From A Certain Point of View, highlighting supporting and role characters in the first three films, allows some of those questions to be answered.

One short story in From A Certain Point of View: The Empire Strikes Back that does that well is "Ion Control" by Emily Strutskie. Star Wars fans might recall in The Empire Strikes Back when the female Rebellion soldier says, "Stand by Ion Control, fire." This prompts the large gun on Hoth's ice station to shoot out into space, firing on the Star Destroyer and allowing the rebel transport to escape.

The short story is about that rebel soldier, Toryn Farr. It chronicles her time on the ice planet Hoth and her attempts to assist the evacuation during the snow battle. The short is full of humor, warmth, and sacrifice and highlights how heroic and selfless each of the rebellion's members is.

One highlight in the story is how the members of the base are aware of and find it humorous the growing dynamic and relationship between Princess Leia and Han Solo. This adds more context when watching the film, as the two main characters seem oblivious to those around them as they argue.

Also, Farr's heroic actions—she stays until the very end of the battle and only leaves the ice planet on the last transport—are a great piece of storytelling for any fan. Ultimately, she shares a moment with her sister as they depart together.

This story, as well as many others, speaks to one of the strongest parts of the franchise. Every character is important, and everyone has a story to tell. It also speaks to how great the fanbase is, as every character, whether small or large, has a fanbase and interest from fans throughout the world.

The transport Toryn and her sister leave on is called Bright Hope. As some fans continue to be negative about the franchise, it is important to remember that simple stories can bring us both hope and a brighter tomorrow.
