The Mandalorian and Grogu panel was one of the highlights at Star Wars Celebration this week, thanks to appearances by Pedro Pascal and Grogu. However, creator Jon Favreau didn't offer any updates about where The Mandalorian stands after its main characters are a year away from their big screen debut.

During an interview by ComicBook.com at Star Wars Celebration, Favreau was asked if Din and Grogu would return to Disney+ for a Season 4 or would only be seen in theaters from now on. He said, "I can't really speak to that right now" because "Right now, I’m focused on the film, and that’s gonna be coming out Memorial Day of ’26."
The status of Mando Season 4 has been a question mark since the movie was announced last year. Some sources maintain that it's still in development, and others claim the movie marks the end of Din Djarin's adventures. Now, with Favreau playing it coy, it raises questions about where the series stands.
I'm not sure why Lucasfilm has chosen to remain tight-lipped about the show's future, but my only guess is they're waiting to see how the movie performs before they decide on it. This doesn't make sense because The Mandalorian has already proven itself on Disney+, and its ratings have remained consistent across all 3 seasons and grown over time. After Andor Season 2, Disney has only Ahsoka Season 2 lined up as the next Star Wars live-action series.
This doesn't give fans much of a reason to subscribe to Disney+. After all, The Mandalorian launched the Disney+ platform, and many fans bought a subscription, hoping for more seasons. Although the movie is a cool idea and would allow fans to experience Din Djarin and Grogu's adventures on a grand scale, there's a difference between how much a 2-hour movie can delve into, compared to 8 episodes worth of storytelling per season.
Unless the writing is immaculate, I'm not sure if the movie will give these characters enough time to develop. If Disney has no plans to continue the series on Disney+, they should be honest with fans because many are still waiting for an announcement regarding The Mandalorian's future.
In the meantime, Lucasfilm and Jon Favreau should spend the next year making sure the movie is worth the long wait. Mando Season 3 ended in April 2023, and The Mandalorian and Grogu was announced in January 2024. This means there will be a 3-year gap since fans last saw these two, so the next year should be all about promoting the movie in the best way possible and ensuring fans remain interested.
The Mandalorian is streaming on Disney+ and The Mandalorian and Grogu premieres May 22, 2026.
