Star Wars 7 News has reported a picture of Ken Leung’s character in Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The 45-year-old Asian American actor was reported to be a member of film’s cast a few weeks ago; and according to Star Wars 7 News, Leung himself has confirmed that he will be in Star Wars Episode VII.

Check out the photo below.

In addition to this photo, which seems to portray Leung’s character as a high-ranking officer or diplomat of some kind, Star Wars 7 News found a screenshot from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens behind-the-scenes video released at San Diego Comic Con that seems to confirm Leung’s military importance. He appears to be in a war room, similar to the one we see the Rebel Alliance leaders watching the Death Star run in in A New Hope.

Note Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia standing next to Leung, and C-3PO (with his red arm) in the background. All of this seems to be pointing to Leung’s character being either an officer and/or leader in the Resistance, or someone of similar military or political standing who has allied himself to Leia’s cause.

It’s great to see the cast of The Force Awakens becoming even more diverse and layered. That’s one of the great things about Star Wars, is how it’s not always the same kind of people all the time. There are other genders, other races, even other species.

I also like how the Resistance hierarchy appears to be, once again, layered, and fleshed out with a variety of characters and leaders. I’m interested to see who the official leader of the Resistance is; it could be Leia, but it would be even more interesting if she isn’t. Because if she isn’t, it’ll be fun to see who is.

In an interview with the Mexican website, Sinembargo, Leung expressed his joy to be working on Star Wars, as well as his emotional connection to the franchise because of his brother’s love for it.

"It is more than an honor [to be in Star Wars], it is like an amusement park for adults, as it is all very magical, as if you were a child, it is rare, something really great and I can not say more than I am there, because everything is so secret, It was just my pages, I could not leave my dressing room because there were planes trying to take pictures of us, a real secret. The first ‘Star Wars’ was released the year when my brother was born and he died two years ago but he is always with me. I remember the first time I heard they were filming here in Albuquerque and told my agent I need an audition, but nothing happened. Then, when he got a call that they wanted me to ‘Star Wars’ I thought it was my brother who was answering my request he had made, because I think a lot about it and this is something very special, “he added.Princess ‘Leia’ was the first love of my brother and I stayed and talked with her, so everything is very special because I never imagined also be part of that."

Welcome aboard, Mr. Leung!
