The man who is Luke Skywalker — Mark Hamill — got in shape and lost weight for his reprisal of the role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and now looks like a chiseled and grizzled version of his younger self.

It’s no secret that actors Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were asked to lose some weight and get in a bit better shape to reprise their Star Wars character roles, in The Force Awakens. Both actors took to heart the request and quickly began to transform their bodies. Both look great, and before we go any further, I want to say that while no one should be judged on their looks in their everyday lives, when getting ready star in what is surely going to be the biggest movie premiere in the history of forever, one should want to look their absolute best for the occasion.

In that regard, TIME Magazine recently unveiled its behind the scenes photoshoot of the Stars of The Force Awakens, with photographer Marco Grob, and the photo of Mark Hamill is…for lack of a better word, shocking. Here’s what Hamill looked like at the 2012 San Diego Comic Con, before The Force Awakens began filming:

Again, allow me to reiterate, there is nothing wrong with the way Hamill looks here. He was around 61 years of age in this photo, and he has most certainly earned the right to comfortably enjoy the finer things in life and get a little festively plump…just like Carrie Fisher. Now look at his photo from the TIME Magazine shoot:

What a jaw-dropping transformation, right? Hamill actually looks about 15 to 20 years younger in this photo. This also begs the question, did Hamill transform himself, so that he could be the Luke Skywalker of old? One wish of most every Star Wars fan, going into The Force Awakens, is that Luke Skywalker is finally the Jedi Master that we have all wanted him to be since Return of the Jedi. In order to correctly convey the badassness of a living Jedi Master, Hamill would have to convincingly look the part.

Now, this photo does not show Hamill with the beard he grew for the film, or the new beard he is growing now (hopefully for Episode VIII). But, there is no denying that Mark Hamill looks fantastic…almost chiseled in this photo, and if this look is any indication of how Luke will look in The Force Awakens, then this adds a whole new level of excitement for the film. Star Wars: The Force Awakens premieres worldwide on December 17 and 18, in just two weeks.
