Report: Star Wars Rebels Returning January 20th with A Princess On Lothal
By Elaine Tveit
Report: Star Wars Rebels may return for season 2B January 20th with “A Princess On Lothal.”
Making Star Wars first broke the news with a screenshot of a cable listing Twitter user Gervais B-A found. The listing shows the premiere of season 2B of Star Wars Rebels scheduled for Wednesday, January 20th, at 7:30 pm on Disney XD.
Though the episode title was shown as being “A Princess On Lothal,” there was no synopsis to give us a clue of what will happen during the episode. However, the biggest clue is in the title itself. It’s impossible to see the word “princess” by itself in a Star Wars context without thinking of the ultimate princess herself, Leia Organa.
We’ve seen several familiar faces from the saga and Star Wars Rebels‘ animated predecessor, The Clone Wars, make cameos in Rebels. Obi Wan Kenobi and Bail Organa, prince regent of Alderaan and Leia’s adoptive father, were the first original trilogy characters to appear on the show (though Obi Wan only appeared as his Episode III version in a hologram), and since then they’ve been joined by Lando Calrissian, Grand Moff Tarkin, Darth Vader, and even Yoda.

With Leia being a crucial member of the Rebel Alliance in A New Hope, and with the Ghost crew’s faint connection to Bail Organa, it makes sense she would show up in the show at some point. She’s the same age as Ezra Bridger, which makes her about fifteen or sixteen, and while that’s quite young, age is clearly not a problem for Leia when she wants to get things done. She may even be the senator for Alderaan already, following in the footsteps of her mother in beginning her political career as barely more than a child.

It’s important to remember, however, that until this report is confirmed by Lucasfilm, there is a possibility “princess” could be referring to an entirely different, and new, character. There’s even a possibility that the title itself is an error, as Jason Ward of Making Star Wars points out. The same goes for the premiere date, though a cable listing this close to January 20th is likely a reliable source.

Personally, though, I’d bet credits that Princess Leia is coming to Star Wars Rebels.
