Preview: Marvel’s Star Wars #15 Returns To Ben Kenobi’s Journal

Marvel’s Star Wars #15 goes back to the journal of Old Ben Kenobi for another tale of the Jedi Master’s exile.

The nineteen years Obi Wan Kenobi spent exiled on Tatooine, watching over the son of his best friend, are largely unknown and remain mysterious. Star Wars #15 remains only the second canon Ben Kenobi tale since Star Wars #7, in which Ben saved a young Luke Skywalker from Jabba the Hutt’s thugs.

Now, writer Jason Aaron and artist Mike Mayhew are exploring how the conflict between Ben and Luke’s grumpy uncle Owen Lars got started. And it starts with high-flying antics from the heir to the Skywalker bloodline. Check out a preview of the issue below (via Comicbook).

Following is the official synopsis (via Comicbook).

I love Mike Mayhew’s work on the art in this issue. The last Star Wars issue to follow Ben Kenobi’s exploits was drawn by Simone Bianchi. His take on the Jedi Master was more otherworldly, suited to one of the last Jedi on a difficult spiritual journey, whereas Mayhew has chosen a more realistic look.

The differences may extend to the writing, as well. Jason Aaron and Simon Bianchi delivered an emotional, broken Kenobi who rediscovered his Jedi strength in the end. It’ll be interesting to see if #15 shows him making any more progress from #7’s conclusion, given Aaron is writing this issue, as well. I’m also interested in how Owen came to dislike Obi Wan so much (though he doesn’t seem like a hard person to make angry), though I’m guessing the rift centers around Luke somehow.
