The Official Star Wars App Wins Webby Award For Best In Entertainment
By Elaine Tveit
The official Star Wars app won the People’s Voice Webby Award for best in the Entertainment in the Mobile Sites & Apps category.
The Webbys acknowledge the very best internet and mobile content, be it an app, a website, or even a GIF. The People’s Voice Award is given based on votes from the public, while the winner of the Webby Award is determined by members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences.
Star Wars is one of the most well-known and popular franchises in the world, entertaining to young and old, diehard fans and casual movie-goers. It comes as no surprise, then, that a Star Wars-themed app is voters’ pick for a Best in Entertainment award. It’s as simple as the Rule of Two.

I have limited experience with the Star Wars app; I’ve only ever been able to get it on my iPad, as none of my phones have been able to support it (I currently have a Galaxy Go Prime, and prior to that I had a Windows phone). I imagine it being a far better experience on a phone; on my iPad, a platform which the app is not specifically designed for, it’s a little sluggish and crashes if you try to do too much. However, it has the same great features, like a selfie camera that turns you into a Jedi or a Sith; Star Wars-themed emojiis and GIFs you can paste into messages or social media; a weather function that compares your local weather with a planet in the galaxy far, far away; interactive experiences; a news feed, and much more.
In other words, it’s the perfect combination of mindless fun and cool trivia to entertain both fans and non-fans of Star Wars. As a source of endless entertainment, it is completely deserving of an Entertainment Webby.

Congratulations to the team who worked hard to bring the app to life and make it so immersive!
