A New Look For Rey? Daisy Ridley & Rian Johnson Swap Faces

A new look for Rey or just fun on the set? Take a look at Daisy Ridley and Rian Johnson’s face swap photo and decide for yourself.

The new photo filter that swaps your face with whoever you’re in the photo has even reached the galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: Episode VIII director Rian Johnson and Rey actress Daisy Ridley decided to get in on the fun with a face swap on Daisy’s Instagram… or are they really teasing us with a new hidden spoiler?! (No, really, it’s not. Just look at the photo and laugh.)

Daisy did reveal how this photo was hers to post first, not something she could only share after Rian Johnson shared it first.

"@riancjohnson and I face swapped and it was awesome and terrifying. #firstpictureihavebeenallowedtopostfromsetwithoutsomeoneelsepostingitfirst #showingalltheinstagramlovetoday 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻"

Daisy’s hashtag #firstpictureihavebeenallowedtopostfromsetwithoutsomeoneelsepostingitfirst is referring to a photo she posted to her Instagram earlier this week. The photo gave us a peek behind the scenes of an Episode VIII coastline shoot, which looks like it might located on the island of Skellig Michael or one of the other Ireland sets.

Daisy’s caption on this revealed Johnson was the first to share the photo, which basically gave her permission to post it on her social media, as well:

More from Dork Side of the Force

"#DOUBLEPOSTMONDAY! If @riancjohnson can share it, so can I oooooh la laaaaaa, where could it be, what could it mean! #episodeVIIIiscoming …… #in18months #thewaitstruggleisreal"

The fact Johnson is even willing to share photos of the set himself is a welcome improvement from the airtight secrecy which surrounded the entire production of The Force Awakens. The director even has a Tumblr where he’s posted several, if non-spoilery behind the scenes photos of his Star Wars film. He also allows his stars to post glimpses into life filming Star Wars  on their social media, even if he does vet them or share them himself first.

What’s important to note, however, is even though the atmosphere surrounding the Episode VIII production feels much more open than The Force Awakens shoot, we still don’t know any spoilers about the plot. Fun and discretion is a balance Johnson has shown himself to be expert at, and I hope he passes on that skill to Colin Trevorrow for Episode IX.
