Empire Magazine Reveals New Images From Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
As promised, Empire Magazine has revealed some all new images from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which hits theaters this December…
Empire Magazine excited Star Wars fans with an announcement last week, that it would be covering Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Today, all new images from the magazine were uploaded to Imgur with the official trademarked Star Wars logo. Check them out:
We start with the protagonist, the heroine of the film, Jyn Erso:
This is a beautiful shot of Jyn Erso, and not one we’ve seen before. You can see from her trigger discipline, that she really knows her way around a blaster, which may go a ways to confirm the theory that she has been a part of Saw Gerrera’s group, before being recruited by Mon Mothma and the Rebellion.
Here’s Jyn with Captain Cassian Andor:
Nothing special with this photo, as we’ve seen different versions of this shot from the two trailers.
Toss in Kaytoo, and it’s a real party:
Okay, this is a new look at Jyn, Cassian, and his sidekick, K-2SO (portrayed in mocap by Alan Tudyk). This may just be after Kaytoo tells Jyn he’s not going to kill her because the Captain said she’s a friend. Ah, let the hijinks ensue.
Jyn meets Chirrut:
Chirrut Îmwe is a blind spiritual warrior who believes in the Force, but who isn’t a Jedi. He lives on Jedha — a place deeply steeped in the mystical energies of the Force — but he isn’t a Jedi. Chirrut Îmwe is basically a Jedi without a lightsaber and Force powers…apparently.
Although, if you’ve seen the second trailer for Rogue One, he seems to be so connected to Force, he knows when to deflect a Stormtrooper’s blaster shot just at the perfect time, in order to to break the cuffs off of Jyn and Cassian.
Chirrut’s buddy, Baze Malbus:
From the trailers for Rogue One, it appears as if Baze is very upset that the Empire has destroyed his and Chirrut’s home of Jedha. And, he want’s revenge. Looking at the bottom left-hand corner of the photo, Empire Magazine is calling him a “Rogue Assassin,” meaning he’s got a very specific set of skills; A very specific set of skills the Rebels will put to good use, I’m sure.
Everyone needs a good pilot! Introducing — Bodhi Rook:
Bodhi’s a hot-headed pilot…so of course he’ll fit right in with a group of Rebels trying to overthrow the Empire. But of course he’s got a past:
"“A former Imperial pilot, Bodhi has strong piloting and technical skills that he will put to use for the Rebellion. Ever practical, but highly anxious, Bodhi must gather his courage to bring the battle to the Empire.”"

Say hello to the bad guy…or at least one of the bad guys — Orson Krennic:
Notice the caption on this photo: “Director Krennic likes to make an entrance.” Yes, with a flowing white cape and dress whites, I would tend to agree. I can’t wait to see what actor Ben Mendelsohn brings to the Star Wars cinematic universe! I also can’t wait to see Krennic and Vader face-off against each other.
Finally, director Gareth Edwards gives direction to the cast:
With everything we’ve seen from Gareth Edwards, from each interview he’s done, to the Rogue One Star Wars Celebration Reel, to the two official trailers, I have every confidence that the hullabaloo over the reshoots was nothing more than a whole lot of smoke, and no fire at all.
Next: Sky Cinema Presents: Star Wars Channel
I love what I’ve seen from Rogue One so far, and I’m so glad that Edwards is at the helm of the very first Star Wars standalone film.
