5 Actors We Forgot Will Be In Star Wars: Episode VIII

4. Gwendoline Christie as Captain Phasma

In case you thought Captain Phasma was still stuck in the trash compactor when Starkiller Base blew, think again. Gwendoline Christie confirmed her reprisal to People, then was officially announced as a member of the cast of Episode VIII back in February along with Nyong’o. This means that somehow, Phasma manages to escape the trash compactor Finn, Han Solo, and Chewbacca threw her into before Starkiller Base became a galactic ball of flame. And you can bet every credit you have she’s going to be hot for revenge.

I’m glad to see Phasma returning. She seemed like such a cool character, and yet we barely got to see her at all in The Force Awakens, much less see her in action. It felt like a huge disservice to her awesome chrome outfit and badass attitude to have her be dumped into the garbage by a subordinate, a smuggler, and a Wookiee. I don’t want her to turn into a trope, either, though: a hot woman seeking revenge, with zero character development and a one-dimensional personality. Fortunately, if Episode VII director Rian Johnson doesn’t do her justice either, Gwendoline Christie can always come back for Episode IX so Colin Trevorrow can try his hand at her character. I’m all for it, as long as they do something with her character other than have her be tackled by a Wookiee and mocked by a First Order traitor.
