What Classic Characters Could We See Cameo In Star Wars Rebels Season 3?

Star Wars Rebels seasons 1 & 2 featured several characters from the original films & The Clone Wars. Which classic characters will we see cameo in Star Wars Rebels season 3?

Star Wars Rebels made waves across the fandom and the internet with classic character cameos in the past two seasons. The series has featured secondary characters like Hondo Ohnaka from The Clone Wars and Lando Calrissian from The Empire Strikes Back, as well as major heroes and villains like Yoda, Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin, and Darth Vader himself.

We expect similar cameos in season 3. In fact, we already know of a few classic character cameos thanks to the new season’s first full trailer. But we also have some guesses as to who else may show up later on.

First, there are a few characters we know are appearing in season 3 and who cameoed in previous seasons of Star Wars Rebels. They are:

  1. Darth Maul
  2. Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin
  3. Hondo Ohnaka
  4. Captain Rex

Darth Maul made his debut on Rebels in the season 2 finale. He has been set up as a sort of Palpatine figure for Ezra and is hellbent on turning the Jedi Padawan to the dark side. Tarkin has been established as a primary antagonist for the rebels in the series. Hondo first appeared on the show in season 2, and is by turns helpful and annoying to the Ghost crew. Captain Rex, meanwhile, returned to the small screen in the premiere episode of season 2. He chose to come out of hiding and help the fledgling rebel fleet to fight the Empire.

Now, for the “new” characters who have never appeared on Star Wars Rebels before.

First up, is Bo Katan. She debuted on The Clone Wars television series. She was the sister of Satine Kryze, the Duchess of Mandalore, and a leader of the Death Watch. We already knew Mandalorians – the people of one of the show’s main original characters, Sabine Wren – would figure largely in at least one or two episodes in season 3. It will be interesting to learn what Bo Katan has been doing all these years since the Mandalore was taken over, first by Darth Maul and then by the Empire. I am also interested in learning if she is related to Sabine in some way.

So far, Bo Katan is the only classic character who has been confirmed to be cameoing in season 3. There are a few characters we speculate will appear. Bail Organa and Princess Leia, for example, will likely come back into play at some point. They both appeared on Star Wars Rebels at different times: Bail in season 1 and Leia in season 2. With the fight between the rebels and the Empire escalating, it can’t be much longer before the Rebel Alliance is formed. When it is, Bail, at least, and perhaps even Mon Mothma are sure to make an appearance.

We also believe Obi Wan Kenobi has a good chance of appearing in season 3, due to a description of Maul in season 3 posted by Disney XD (via Making Star Wars). The description reads: “…the restless former Sith lord hopes to heal old wounds by completing a task he should have done years ago.” There are only two people we know Maul has a vendetta against. They are Palpatine and Obi Wan. Since Obi Wan gave Maul his literal wounds (by chopping him in half in The Phantom Menace) and also managed to evade being killed by him twice in The Clone Wars, him being the object of Maul’s wrath yet again makes sense. Palpatine, on the other hand, is a very big fish to fry, maybe too big for Maul; especially since he whooped Maul’s rear end in The Clone Wars.
