Felicity Jones Talks About Her First Day On-Set of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The star of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Felicity Jones, has opened up about her first day of shooting for the film…

Speaking with the Telegraph, the star and heroine of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — Felicity Jones — discussed her first day on-set of the film, and what it was like. As you may know, Jones plays Jyn Erso, a rebellious figure who the fledgling Rebellion desperately needs, in order to steal the plans to the Empire’s super weapon, the Death Star.

Jones is talking to the Telegraph about her new film with Tom Hanks, the third installment in the  Da Vinci Code film series — Inferno:

"After Inferno wrapped last July she flew straight to Jordan to start filming Rogue One in the desert of Wadi Rum. She plays Jyn Erso, a rebel spy on a mission to destabilise Darth Vader’s evil empire."

“Darth Vader’s evil empire” isn’t exactly how a Star Wars fan would describe the current state of the galaxy, during the era of Rogue One, and the Original Star Wars Trilogy. In fact, it would be more accurate to say Emperor Palpatine’s evil empire…but maybe I’m just splitting hairs here.

Jones goes on to talk about what she experienced on her first day, on the set of Rogue One:

"“One of the first shots featured a stormtrooper sitting on a camel, and I thought to myself: “Wow, I’m in Star Wars!”"

That certainly sounds neat! A Stormtrooper on a camel sounds like Jones was filming a scene on the planet Scarif, which is the planet the Death Star is orbiting, while being constructed. Also, I wouldn’t count on that camel making it into the final cut of the film, as we know from A New Hope that Stormtroopers rode Dewbacks on desert planets, and Scarif is described as tropical, so it may have a desert like atmosphere.

Perhaps director Gareth Edwards will turn that camel into a Dewback, in post production…I guess we won’t know for sure, until December, when Rogue One premieres theatrically, worldwide.
