Does a Merchandise Leak Prove this Character in Rogue One is Force Sensitive?

facebooktwitterreddit

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director, Gareth Edwards, has always been very clear that he did not want to have a Jedi character in his film come and save the day, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a Force-sensitive character…

In April of 2015, when Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was in its infancy, director Gareth Edwards made it very clear that his film would not be centered around the Jedi. In an interview with Collider, all that time ago, Edwards had this to say about his story and where it fit in regards to A New Hope and the Jedi Order:

"“It all comes down to a group that doesn’t have magical powers. God isn’t coming to save us.”"

This was all fine and well until the characters for Rogue One were unveiled, and Donnie Yen was revealed to be playing blind monk/warrior, Chirrut Îmwe.

Deeply spiritual, Chirrut Îmwe believes all living things are connected through the Force. His sightless eyes do not prevent him from being a highly skilled warrior. Though he lacks Force abilities, this warrior monk has rigorously honed his body through intense physical and mental discipline. – StarWars.com

WARNING: SPOILERS BELOW

Thanks to a post on the subreddit Star Wars Leaks an Imgur photo has surfaced showing a not yet released Rogue One sticker book, we may have a clue to Chirrut Îmwe’s connection to the Force. Because of legal reasons we can’t show you the photo, but if you wish to see it, here’s the link.

From the scenes we’ve seen from all the different Rogue One trailers, there seems like there is definitely more to Chirrut Îmwe than a blind warrior monk who trusts in the Force and dumb-luck to get him through tough situations like an entire battalion of Imperial Stormtroopers.
