Rogue One: Recon is a short immersive 360 experience created by ILMxLAB that is connected to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for Star Wars fans to prepare for the film’s release in December, a mere month away…
StarWars.com has just released an all-new video that shows an X-Wing squadron jumping out of Hyperspace and into the clutches of the Empire. The twist? You are piloting the lead X-Wing, as this is an immersive and interacting experience, as part of Lucasfilm’s final marketing push for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiering worldwide in theaters on December 16. Check it out:
"Conflict, above all else, rules the galaxy. As an everyday X-wing pilot flying for the Rebellion, be immediately immersed in the vastness of space with only your R2 unit and wingman by your side. What starts as a routine mission for Mon Mothma takes a sharp turn as you stumble upon unexpected Imperial presence – and something they will do anything to keep hidden."
I absolutely love marketing pushes like this. And, this, by far, has got to by my favorite, as it put Star Wars fans in the virtual cockpit of my all time favorite Rebel starfighter in the Star Wars universe, the X-Wing. Now, all we need is for Lucasfilm to get off their backsides and out those tickets on sale! (Stay tuned tomorrow for news of that).
