At the Star Wars Celebration in 2015, in Anaheim, California, Director Josh Trank was supposed to be announced along with Gareth Edwards as the new directors of the Star Wars standalone films, but at the last second, he pulled out. Now new reports say his canceled film was going to be about Boba Fett…

Listen up, Star Wars fans, if you ever had a hope of a Star Wars standalone Boba Fett film, then this story may hold some interest for you. In 2015, at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, California, director Josh Trank (Chronical, Fantastic Four) was set to be introduced on stage with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director, Gareth Edward. However, at the last minute, Trank pulled out and the crowd in the room was left wondering what film he was supposed to helm.

Well, thanks to a report from Comicbook.com, via Entertainment Weekly, we now know that movie was a Boba Fett Star Wars standalone film. During the panel, a teaser with an audio clip was shown for Rogue One. And, apparently, there was one prepared for Boba Fett, as well. Here’s the quote from CB:

"According to the report, a similar teaser had been developed for the Boba Fett film. Comicbook.com’s own sources corroborated that report. There were also rumors the film was going to include more than just Boba Fett, with other bounty hunters entirely new to the project and from Star Wars: The Clone Wars in consideration for it."

Now that Trank has moved on, it doesn’t mean Boba Fett: A Star Wars Story is out of the picture. In fact, if Lucasfilm went through the trouble of making art and a short teaser like the one they made for Rogue One in 2015, then I would expect that a Boba Fett film would be the third Star Wars standalone film slated to hit in 2020, after Han Solo.
