We are less than three weeks away from the worldwide premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and thanks to a Rogue One presentation in Mexico City, we have some SPOILER filled details to share with you today…

Prepare yourselves, Star Wars fans, Rogue One SPOILERS are coming. In that vein, a Rogue One presentation was held in Mexico City, this past week, and thanks to Jedi News and one of the site’s loyal readers, Enrique Maddox (who was in attendance), we’ve got some SPOILER filled details regarding Rogue One: A Star Wars Story to share with you.

Warning: Rogue One SPOILERS Below

Jedi News has a bevy of photos with Enrique Maddox, the reader who shared this information with them, and you can see them all HERE. There are some great photos of Enrique with the cast of Rogue One and the director of the film, Gareth Edwards.

Now to the SPOILERY Rogue One information:

"The movie starts with the “a long time ago…” screen and then we go straight to space and Krennic’s ship flying through some rings (kind of like Saturn’s). It’s beautiful. Next, we see Jyn Erso’s family in a rush trying to escape before the Empire ship arrives. They know they’re on their way to capture them."

So there’s your confirmation that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will not have the usual Star Wars opening crawl. We’ve also seen Krennic’s shuttle flying to a planet in one of the main trailers.

"They pack all their stuff and Jyn and her mom escape while her dad goes to confront Krennic. Jyn’s mom gives her a necklace and tells her that the Force will protect her or something along those lines. She tells her to hide in their secret place and little Jyn runs for her life."

Again, we’ve seen this in the latest trailer, as Jyn’s mother, Lyra Erso, gives her a Kyber crystal necklace and tells her to trust the Force.

"Back to Krennic, he says to Jyn’s father that they want him to work for them since it’s important for the galaxy’s safety and he refuses. He tells them his wife is dead (obviously not true) and he doesn’t want to do it. At that moment Jyn’s mom comes back with a hidden gun and tries to shoot Krennic and she gets shot. Krennic only gets his shoulder wounded."

This is the part we hadn’t heard of yet. Lyra Erso seems to attempt to save her husband, Galen, and in the process, gets killed by a Death Trooper.

"Jyn’s dad is captured and taken to the ship while Krennic orders the Death Troopers to search for the girl. Jyn hides in a tiny bunker and waits for them to leave. Suddenly, the bunker door opens and it’s Saw Gerrera. He rescues little Jyn Erso. End of scene. ROGUE ONE title (SW font, but it’s hollow) with new (very beautiful) theme music."

I think I really like the idea that we are going to get a cold open of sorts, with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Also, I love the fact that it is Saw Gerrera that rescues little Jyn Erso.

Moving on, there has been some news on the length of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. As Star Wars News Net reports, a few tweets to Lucasfilm Story Group’s Pablo Hidalgo seemed to confirm the runtime of the film:

Why yes, Mr. Hidalgo, they do.

Looks like Pablo Hidalgo, the gatekeeper of Lucasfilm Story Group, has unofficially confirmed that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will have a runtime of 133 minutes. For comparison’s sake, SWNN listed the other Star Wars films and their runtimes:

More from Dork Side of the Force

"The Phantom Menace – 136 minutesAttack of the Clones – 142 minutesRevenge of the Sith – 140 minutesA New Hope – 121 minutes (125 SE)The Empire Strikes Back – 124 minutes (127 SE)Return of the Jedi – 131 minutes (134 SE)The Force Awakens – 136 minutes"

That puts Rogue One just three minutes under 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Sound like Rogue One will fit right in with the rest of the Star Wars saga films.

We want to hear from you: What do you think of this SPOILER filled Rogue One news? Are you happy with 133 minutes of runtime? (We are!) Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and on social media.
