Thanks to an interview with a French television network, director Gareth Edwards has man fans wondering if these classic Star Wars characters will be in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story…

In a recent interview with French TV network TF1, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story director Gareth Edwards was asked several odd and what you might call “frenzied” questions about the possibility of certain Star Wars characters showing up in Rogue One, as well as classic Star Wars elements being in the film. Here’s the list of questions and Edwards’ answers:

"Q: Will there be Jedi?A: Technically yes.Q: Will there be lightsabers?A: Darth Vader has one.Q: Luke Skywalker?A: NoQ: Will we see Princess Leia?A: I cannot answer.Q: R2D2?A: I cannot answer."

Let’s take a deep-dive into these questions and answers, shall we?

First off, the question of a Jedi being in the film, and Edwards’ answer of “technically yes.” In the second cinematic trailer for Rogue One, we see Jyn Erso flying over the ruins of a Jedi temple on Jedha, and a fallen Jedi statue. This could easily be explained as Edwards’ answer.

The next question regarding lightsabers. Well, yes, Darth Vader would have his iconic red bladed lightsaber with him. We just haven’t seen it in any of the trailers, as of yet.

Next…of course Luke Skywalker wouldn’t be in Rogue One. He’s still  bullseyeing womp rats in his T-16 back on Tatooine.

The final two questions and answers are the ones that should raise the eyebrows of Star Wars fans everywhere. It actually does make sense to have both Princess Leia and R2-D2 in Rogue One, perhaps in the final scenes of the film, as Jyn Erso transmits the plans of the Death Star to the Tantive IV.
