Is The Ghost From Star Wars Rebels In Rogue One?

Eagle-eye Star Wars fans spotted a ship in a recent Rogue One television spot which looks just like The Ghost from Star Wars Rebels.

Rogue One may be bringing all the rebels together to fight the Empire, including The Ghost crew from the animated series Star Wars Rebels.

In a new television spot for the upcoming standalone Star Wars film, a ship that looks like The Ghost from Star Wars Rebels hangs out in a fleet of Rebel Alliance ships (via Reddit).

The fleet appears at 0:07 in the preview, which you can watch below.

It’s indisputable that the ship in the Rogue One television spot is VCX-100 light freighter like The Ghost. Whether it is actually The Ghost is debatable. It could be any random VCX-100. The fact it is part of the Rebel Alliance fleet, however, suggests its inclusion was no accident.

So does this mean we will see Hera, Kanan, Sabine, Ezra, Zeb, and Chopper in Rogue One? Probably not. The Ghost, if that VCX-100 in the preview is The Ghost, is all we are likely to get in Rogue One in the way of a Star Wars Rebels cameo. The majority of movie-goers wouldn’t appreciate a cameo from one of the characters, anyway. Rebels is not like Game of Thrones, which everyone has heard of and a lot of people of different ages watch. The Ghost is a subtle enough reference to please the fans who love Star Wars Rebels and not bewilder those who have never even heard of the Disney XD series.

If that is The Ghost in Rogue One, what does its appearance imply about the fate of its crew? Some fans speculated when Star Wars Rebels first started that its main characters wouldn’t make it out of the season alive. In retrospect, that scenario is a bit morbid for a kids’ show. It’s more likely a few of the crew members survived to continue the fight against the Empire in Rogue One, A New Hope, and beyond. But which ones survived and which ones might meet their deaths in the Rebels series? I don’t think that’s something we will find out from Rogue One.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premieres in theaters in the U.S. on December 16th. Catch Star Wars Rebels on Disney XD Saturdays at 8:30 pm ET.
