Has actor Woody Harrelson been tapped to play Han Solo’s mentor in the untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story?
The untitled Han Solo Star Wars Story won’t hit theaters until December of 2018, most likely, but the cast has been coming together quite nicely. Now there is word that actor Woody Harrelson may play Han’s mentor in the film.
According to sources at Variety, Harrelson is the top choice to play Han Solo’s mentor in the next Star Wars anthology film, which was tentatively scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2018, but now looks like it will debut around Christmas of the same year.
Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy, and Allison Shearmur are producing the film which is a great connection to Harrelson, as he worked with Shearmur during his stint as Haymitch in The Hunger Games films. Along with The Hunger Games, Allison Shearmur also produced Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, so she is already familiar with the Star Wars anthology framework.
There is a connection to Han Solo’s mentor, from the screenplay for Empire Strikes Back, as Blast Points Podcast points out:
I personally think that Woody Harrelson is perfect for the mentor role in the Han Solo film, and would be the perfect addition to an already exciting cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo, Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian, and Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryen) in an unnamed role.
