Rumors are circulating that Kylo Ren has a new look and a new ride in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Both the look and the ride, however, are strikingly familiar.
Kylo Ren was already channeling his grandfather, Darth Vader with the mask and the synthesized voice. But according to the latest rumors, Episode VIII sees Kylo take “channeling” to an all-new level.

First, Making Star Wars reports that Kylo wears a Darth Vader-style cape in Episode VIII. The only thing distinguishing the cape from Vader’s, in fact, is its lack of a chain clasp. Jason Ward, editor-in-chief at MSW, says his sources could not confirm if the cape was actually once Vader’s, squirreled away by collectors obsessed with dark side artifacts. More than likely it’s a replica. (Wearing Vader’s clothes seems like a step too far, even for Kylo.)
Next, Making Star Wars reports the rumor that Kylo pilots a First Order TIE Advanced in VIII. The Advanced was Vader’s TIE of choice in the original trilogy. The First Order may have pimped their version up, though; Ward says the design may be similar to a piece of The Force Awakens concept art, which you can view here. Darth Vader’s original TIE is pictured below.

They say imitation is the best form of flattery. But in Kylo’s case, it’s obsessive. And kind of weird. Why does he love the evil side of his grandfather so much? I understand keeping his melted helmet as a sort of shrine or momento. But dressing like him and piloting a ship almost exactly like his? Kylo must feel he needs a lot of inspiration, physical and spiritual, to keep him on his dark path.
As with all rumors, remember to take these with a grain of salt until we see proof of them in Episode VIII.
