The long awaited reunion between Obi-Wan Kenobi and his nemesis, Maul, will finally take place on Star Wars Rebels: Twin Suns, and now, thanks to new footage, we’ve got an all-new look at the two facing off on Tatooine…

The rivalry between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Maul began in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace when then Darth Maul killed then Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi’s Jedi Master, Qui-Gon Jinn, and in retaliation, Kenobi cut Maul in half.

Thinking Maul was dead, Obi-Wan was shocked at the Sith Lord’s return in The Clone Wars animated series, which took place between Star Wars: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith.

Later, Maul was captured by his former Master, Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine), and eventually, through the help of his former Mandalorian Death Watch guard, Maul was set free and returned home to Dathomir to have one final showdown with Sidious and his apprentice, Darth Tyranus (Count Dooku), in the only canonical Dark Horse Comics Star Wars series remaining — Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir.

After that, Maul faded away into the Star Wars oblivion, many assuming he was dead, until he once again reared his horned head in Star Wars Rebels season 2, as Old Master. Maul, desiring Ezra Bridger for his own apprentice, betrayed Jedi Knight Kanan Jarus, blinding him in his attempt to lure the young Jedi Padawan to the Dark Side of the Force.

Maul returned to Star Wars Rebels in season 3, and once again attempted to lure Ezra Bridger to the Dark Side, but failed. However, his last connection with the young Jedi revealed a vision (through the combining of Sith and Jedi Holocrons) in which he saw Obi-Wan Kenobi on the desert planet of Tatooine, where they had their very first meeting in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.

Now, with Star Wars Rebels season 3 soon coming to a close, Maul is back, and this time he’s found his old nemesis, and he’s prepared to fight him to the death. Star Wars Rebels: Twin Suns will air on Saturday, March 18, and the synopsis for that episode reads thusly:

"In response to a vision of Maul, Ezra opposes Hera and Kanan and travels to a remote planet where he hopes to prevent the Sith Lord from carrying out his plan."

A short teaser for the episode was shown this weekend, and thanks to ComicBook.com, we’ve got some screengrabs and a GIF of Obi-Wan and Maul’s reunion. Check it out:

As you can see, Obi-Wan (now an older man) gets into his familiar fighting stance as Maul ignites his iconic double-bladed lightsaber and gets into a fighting stance of his own.

There’s also a cool screengrab of a hooded Maul, the twin suns of Tatooine behind him, preparing to bring his lightsaber to bear on someone.

I’m not sure who Maul is about to dispatch in the photo above, but I can’t imagine they would survive his wrath, should he decided to bring his lightsaber to bear. All we do know is, Obi-Wan doesn’t face Maul until those twin suns set, so it can’t be him.
