Rejoice, Star Wars Rebels fans, as the hit animated show has been officially renewed for its fourth season which will air this fall….

Lucasfilm has announced today that Star Wars Rebels will return to Disney XD this fall, for its fourth season. The announcement was made via the official Star Wars Facebook page, as well as on StarWars.com.

In what may come as a bit of a surprise, it was also announced that production for season 4 is already in progress. Just a week ago, doubts were swirling that Rebels would not be returning. Now we know those rumors were unfounded. Senior vice president of programming for Disney XD had this to say:

"The team behind Star Wars Rebels delivers epic storytelling that has captivated fans of all ages across the globe. We’re excited to continue sharing the journey of these fan-favorite rebels with our audience in the fall."

While season 3 has seen the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn into Star Wars canon, as well as a direct connection to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — with Saw Gerrera — there have been some lulls. However, with “Twin Suns” airing on March 18 (promising a duel between Obi-Wan Kenobi and Maul), it would appear as if this season will be racing to an exciting conclusion.

According to the announcement, fans of the show will be excited to know that more details about season 4 will be revealed at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, this April. Star Wars Rebels season 3 continues this Saturday with an appearance from Mon Mothma in, “Secret Cargo.”
