A new on-going Marvel comic series about Darth Vader will pick up directly after the events of Revenge of the Sith and show Vader’s beginnings as a Sith.

After the success of the first one, Darth Vader will get yet another ongoing comic series in June (via IGN).

The new series follows Vader directly after the events of Revenge of the Sith. It is written by Charles Soule, who worked on Star Wars comics like Lando, Obi Wan and Anakin, and Poe Dameron. The artwork is by Giuseppe Camuncoli, who is known for drawingThe Amazing Spider-Man.

Soule described the new series to IGN as “Darth Vader: Year One.” Essentially, it’s about how Vader adapts to his new life:

"“…it’s about trying to understand that, what life without Padme is like, and just kind of understand what it means to be a Sith lord, because all this stuff if new to him. And really exploring the Dark Side in an open way where he doesn’t have to be ashamed, doesn’t have to hide from the Jedi, can really go deep into it.”"

According to IGN, supporting characters include not only Vader’s master, Emperor Palpatine, but also the Inquisitors from Star Wars Rebels. I’m interested to see how Vader deals with the Grand Inquisitor in particular, since the Grand Inquisitor was, like Vader himself, once a Jedi.

The first arc of Darth Vader shows Vader constructing his red lightsaber. The arc will also “explore the mythology around lightsabers to some degree,” Soule said. The latter means that whether you are a Darth Vader fan or not, this first story in the new series will be a must-read for those interested in Force lore.
