Nothing says Happy St. Patrick’s Day more than the color green, and shamrocks. Now, thanks to a neat Star Wars themed daily doodle from Google, we have a shamrock wielding a lightsaber on the island of Skellig Michael…

Google’s front page can always be counted on for a doodle celebrating whatever that day’s event calls for. Today, in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, Google’s doodle was of two shamrocks coming out of stone huts and high-fiving each other on the island of Skellig Michael in Ireland. Here’s that:

Star Wars fans may instantly notice the island and stone huts that Luke Skywalker inhabits during Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, Google took the doodle one step further by making an homage to Star Wars. Check it out:

As you can see, the shamrock emerges from the stone hut, ignites its lightsaber, then draws a shamrock in mid-air. Google’s Doodler, Matt Cruickshank had this to say about his alternate take on the daily doodle.

"I thoroughly enjoyed populating this magical island with shamrock people, even one from a shamrock galaxy far, far away."

The island of Skellig Michael was briefly seen at the end of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. After completing the map to the location of the self-exiled Jedi Master, Rey takes off on the Millennium Falcon to find Luke Skywalker. Once there, she climbs the stone stairway to find Luke looking over the ocean surrounding the island (the planet’s name — Ahch-To).

As Rey draws near, Luke turns and removes his hood, staring at Rey and the lightsaber she holds, hoping to return it to him.

I love neat little homages to Star Wars like Google has done today, as it shows just how much our culture is infused with the Star Wars universe.
