An Obi-Wan: A Star Wars Story film starring Ewan McGregor may be announced in two weeks at the Star Wars Celebration Orlando….

The 2017 Star Wars Celebration in Orlando, Florida, will open its doors on Thursday, April 13. And, thanks to some insider information from Star Wars News Net, it’s beginning to look like we may see an official announcement for an Obi-Wan: A Star Wars Story film starring Ewan McGregor.

According to the site, an Obi-Wan film would take place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope and would be a standalone film, not a trilogy.

"Kathleen Kennedy and the rest of Lucasfilm fully intend to make an Obi-Wan movie set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, with Ewan McGregor in tow."

SWNN’s insider also mentions that Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy was so impressed with director Gareth Edward’s work on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, that he seems to be the frontrunner for the film. However, the production team and writers from Rogue One would be completely different.

As far as when and why Lucasfilm would make the announcement as soon as the second week in April, SWNN’s insider says there have been materials made for the event.

"An announcement of an Obi-Wan movie might just be one of the big surprises at Celebration Orlando. This possibility is supported by the existence of a few materials that were made in conjunction with the event."

I must say, this is certainly excitng news. Ever since Disney acquired Lucasfilm and announced its plans to move forward with making Star Wars films for the foreseeable future, I have hoped that an Obi-Wan film starring Ewan McGregor, would be on the slate.
