In 2 hours and 13 minutes, Rogue One packs plenty of action with just as much heart. The first official Star Wars standalone film produced by Disney and Lucasfilm tells the story of how the rebels obtained the first Death Star plans. The position of the film’s events, just prior to A New Hope, allowed Lucasfilm to bring back beloved classic Star Wars characters like Darth Vader, Wilhuff Tarkin, Mon Mothma and Bail Organa on the big screen again. But Rogue One‘s greatest triumph is its new characters: Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, K-2SO, Director Orson Krennic, Chirrut Imwe, Baze Malbus and Bodhi Rook. Further, new locations like Jedha and Scarif and epic battle scenes dazzle with every viewing. Finally, the film’s message – hope in the face of evil – places it on the level of the moral and storytelling integrity of the saga Episodes.
