Expect news about the Han Solo movie and more from Star Wars in July

We can expect more Star Wars live-action movie news, including an announcement of the third standalone film in July at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA.

Star Wars Celebration Orlando in April was just the beginning of Lucasfilm’s live-action movie announcements in 2017. There is more in store, possibly including the announcement of the third standalone Star Wars movie after the young Han Solo film, in July.

July 14-16, 2017, Disney will throw its biannual D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA. The event is a mecca for Disney fans who want a sneak peek at the movies and Park projects the company has up its sleeve for the next year. On Saturday, July 15 the expo will present “The Walt Disney Live-Action Films” panel which promises sneak peeks at new movies from Disney and its subsidiaries, Marvel and Lucasfilm.

What can we expect to learn from Lucasfilm at the panel? The 2015 D23 Expo certainly set a precedent for meaningful reveals. For example, the 2015 Expo’s live-action panel revealed a cast photo for Rogue One; the cast of The Force Awakens hit the stage along with director J.J. Abrams; and Colin Trevorrow was announced as the director of Episode IX. Finally, Disney announced its plans for the Star Wars Land parks in Disneyland and Disney World.

More from Dork Side of the Force

For this year’s D23 Expo, there are a lot of potential areas Lucasfilm could cover. An announcement of a title for the new Han Solo movie or even footage and/or photos from the film’s set is likely. More exciting, however, is the possibility of learning the focus of the next standalone film after Han Solo. At Star Wars Celebration Orlando, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy told MTV’s Josh Horowitz that she hopes the third “Star Wars Story” will be revealed this summer. There is no better place for Disney to make that announcement than its own convention.

Even more likely, however, is the release of more set photos or even new footage of Lucasfilm’s next Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi. Disney will also want to draw attention to its progress and plans for Star Wars Land. The new parks are currently undergoing construction in Disneyland and Disney World with a deadline of 2019. The Last Jedi, meanwhile, hits theaters on December 15, 2017.

Whatever happens at the live-action panel at the D23 Expo in July, there will be Star Wars news and you will not want to miss it.
