Doctor Aphra wins Hasbro’s Star Wars Vintage Collection fan vote

Doctor Aphra from Marvel’s Darth Vader and Doctor Aphra comic series won Hasbro’s Star Wars Vintage Collection fan vote and will become an action figure.

Today is a great Star Wars Day for fans of Doctor Aphra, the Marvel Star Wars comics original character who became so popular in the Darth Vader series that she got her own self-titled comic. Now, she will get her own action figure.

Aphra was one of six finalists in Hasbro’s Star Wars fan vote, in which fans of the science fiction franchise voted for their favorite character to become a 3.75-inch figure in the upcoming Star Wars Vintage Collection. Thursday, StarWars.com announced the Indiana Jones-inspired character as the winner.

Doctor Aphra is not your typical heroine. In fact, she’s not as much of a heroine in the altruistic sense as she is an enterprising woman on the hunt for credits and artifacts. Her colleagues in the Doctor Aphra comic include two homicidal droids and an equally dangerous Wookiee. These three characters, as well as Aphra, were first introduced in Marvel’s first Darth Vader comic series. In that series, Vader recruited the young archaeologist to help him build an army and then again later to find his son, Luke Skywalker. At the end of that comic’s run, Vader tried to kill Aphra. But against all odds, she managed to evade death. Now, fans of Aphra can follow her continuing journey in the ongoing Doctor Aphra series written by Kieron Gillen, her original creator.

StarWars.com did not reveal when Hasbro intends to release Aphra in action figure form. Given that Hasbro is probably just now starting production on the figure, expect a 2018 or even a 2019 release date.
