Watch behind the scenes of Vanity Fair’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi photo shoot

Vanity Fair shot a video to get viewers behind the scenes of photographer Annie Leibovitz’s photo shoot of the cast of Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Wednesday morning, Vanity Fair released their exclusive photo spread of Star Wars: The Last Jedi online. Along with the spread, the news outlet debuted a video showing photographer Annie Leibovitz going on set to capture the film’s cast in costume. The behind-the-scenes glimpse also features interviews with some of the cast members, including Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron), John Boyega (Finn), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Daisy Ridley (Rey).

Watch the video below, via YouTube.

As well as showing how Leibovitz she got some of her amazing shots, the video shows cast and crew members reflecting on the upcoming eighth installment in the Star Wars saga.

Oscar Isaac is excited to see everything (and everyone) come together to witness this film:

"“With Rian, with the cast and with the audience, we all get to discover who these characters are.”"

John Boyega’s quote, however, warns us to expect the unexpected:

"“Everything’s being shifted in opposite way to what the audience expected after 7.”"

In relation to Boyega’s quote, Mark Hamill provided an interesting perspective on The Last Jedi, calling it “different in many ways” from Star Wars films we have seen before:

More from Dork Side of the Force

"“It’s so much different in many ways from the other episodes, and yet I think it’s very satisfying in delivering what the fans want to see.”"

The best part of this video, however, was not the hints it gave for the movie’s plot. Rather, it was seeing everyone look so happy and complete. The video and the Vanity Fair photo shoot were shot before Carrie Fisher’s (General Leia Organa) passing in December 2016. It’s a beautiful moment where director Rian Johnson, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, and the stars of The Last Jedi enjoy their creation without the taint of sorrow.

Daisy Ridley summed up the experience of both the making of The Last Jedi and the spirit of Vanity Fair‘s video perfectly:

"“I get to be part of this amazing story, and on a set with the most incredible crew. It’s wonderful.”"

Star Wars: The Last Jedi premieres in theaters on December 15, 2017. See Vanity Fair‘s exclusive spread on the film here.
