Lucasfilm’s new video shows the impact of Star Wars Force For Change
By Elaine Tveit
A new video on the official Star Wars YouTube page shows the impact of your donations to the Star Wars Force for Change charity campaign.
Star Wars Force for Change is a campaign organized by Disney, Lucasfilm and Omaze in partnership with two children’s charities: the Starlight Children’s Foundation and UNICEF. Since 2015, the campaign raised millions of dollars for children in need around the world.
Now, in a new video on the official Star Wars YouTube channel, you can see the impact your donations and support produced. Watch “Thank You For Being A Force For Change” below.
In the video, you will see clips from past Force for Change celebrity promotional videos, from The Force Awakens director, J.J. Abrams’s sneak peek at the set of Jakku to John Boyega (Finn) photobombing fans at Star Wars Celebration Orlando 2017. Thanks to the participation of Abrams, Boyega and other Star Wars celebrities – Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Daisy Ridley, to name a few – word of Force for Change spread far and wide and made some great changes, indeed. In just four weeks in 2017, for example, fans raised around $3,400,000 for chances to win one of three amazing Star Wars experiences as prizes. The net proceeds from that amount, Omaze says, will go to Starlight and UNICEF.

Now that Force for Change is over for this year and the winners of the campaign are chosen, you can see the fruit of thousands of Star Wars fans’ good work. With the funds they received from Force for Change, the Starlight Children’s Foundation will provide Star Wars-themed hospital gowns to over 15,000 children. They will also continue their launch of a Star Wars-themed virtual reality program that allows kids staying in hospitals to escape into a galaxy far, far away for awhile. Finally, the proceeds benefiting UNICEF provide meals for kids in places like Africa where food is scarce, saving over 20,500 lives in the process.
We would like to thank our readers for their kind support of Force for Change, as well as thank Lucasfilm and Disney for championing these amazing causes.
