Daisy Ridley (Rey) is a suspect in ‘Murder on the Orient Express’ trailer

Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is a murder suspect in the new trailer for Kenneth Branagh’s Murder on the Orient Express.

Daisy Ridley takes on a role very different from the pure-hearted Rey in the first trailer for Murder on the Orient Express which dropped this morning.

The new film, directed by Kenneth Branagh (Thor, Cinderella), is inspired by the bestselling 1934 mystery novel of the same title by Agatha Christie. It stars Christie’s most popular hero: Hercule Poirot (portrayed in this 2017 adaptation by Branagh) attempting to solve a murder mystery aboard the Orient Express. The problem is he has twelve suspects, one of which Ridley plays. Fortunately, Poirot is, as he describes himself, “probably the greatest detective in the world.” But are his brain and his mustache enough to flush out the culprit(s)?

More from Dork Side of the Force

I enjoy bringing Ridley’s accomplishments outside the Star Wars universe to light. Some Star Wars actors struggled to make it big after their terms with Lucasfilm were over. Hayden Christensen, for example, was never a popular star after his oft-criticized portrayal of Anakin Skywalker in the prequel trilogy. Even Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) found little stardom after Return of the Jedi premiered in 1983. Ridley is such a great actress, it would be an incredible injustice if she couldn’t find any roles outside of Star Wars. But Murder on the Orient Express is proof she can do more than just play a scavenger from Jakku.

Murder on the Orient Express premieres in theaters on November 10, 2017. Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which also stars Ridley, premieres a month later on December 15.
