Will Rey construct her own lightsaber in Star Wars: The Last Jedi?

Will Rey get a new lightsaber in The Last Jedi? Some new evidence suggests that she does…

Thanks to a recent event showcasing Star Wars Battlefront II, a new in-game photo has surfaced suggesting that Rey (Daisy Ridley) might construct her own lightsaber in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. In Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rey acquired the Skywalker familial lightsaber when she summoned it from the snowy forest during her fight with Kylo Ren.

By the end of the film, Rey traveled to the ocean planet of Ahch-To where Jedi Master Luke Skywalker had been in a self-imposed exile since the destruction of his Jedi Academy at the hands of his nephew, Ben Solo (Kylo Ren), and attempted to return the lightsaber to its former owner.

Recently, Lucasfilm Story Group gatekeeper, Pablo Hidalgo, told Vanity Fair that the Lucasfilm prop department now considers the lightsaber to be Rey’s, which should also make it official canon.

Now, we have two in-game photos — noticed by Redditor BrandonTheComicMan on the subreddit Star Wars Leaks —  from Star Wars Battlefront II that show Rey with two different options for a lightsaber. Check them out:

This is Rey with the Skywalker lightsaber.

And here’s Rey with a different one. One that reminds us of Luke’s from Return of the Jedi.

So now the question is: Does Rey construct her own lightsaber in Star Wars: The Last Jedi? Or, will she use Luke’s green saber from Return of the Jedi?

If Rey now owns Anakin and Luke’s former lightsaber, there really is no reason for her to construct a new one, unless that is part of her training as a Jedi Padawan. Or, at some point in the film, Rey could, in fact, wield Luke’s green-bladed lightsaber.
