Marvel Star Wars has released its first look at Captain Phasma #1 for Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi…

To say that Captain Phasma in Star Wars: The Force Awakens was a bit of an enigma, would be a massive understatement. The character, portrayed by Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie (Brienne of Tarth), only had a few small scenes, and never once removed her helmet.

Well, it seems as if Lucasfilm learned its lesson regarding wasting a potentially very popular character, and has decided to give Phasma her own comic book series run from Marvel Star Wars, with Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi — Captain Phasma #1.

Marvel Star Wars made the announcement via a press release that included a first look at story-art for the comic:

"It’s the galaxy’s big mystery: How did Captain Phasma survive the destruction of the Starkiller Base in the final moments of Star Wars: The Force Awakens? All will be revealed this September, when superstar writer Kelly Thompson (Hawkeye, Star Wars Annual) teams with blockbuster artist Marco Checchetto (Star Wars: Shattered Empire, Star Wars: Screaming Citadel) to bring you JOURNEY TO STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI – CAPTAIN PHASMA #1, a four-part miniseries bridging the events between Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi!"

The last we saw of Captain Phasma is The Force Awakens, she was being forced into a trash compactor by Finn, Han Solo and Chewbacca.

But, her fate was not tied to that of Starkiller Base, as the mysteriously chromed-out First Order Stormtrooper Captain did, in fact, make good her escape before the planet was destroyed. How’d she do it? Marvel Star Wars plans on telling that story.

Here’s Phasma leaving the trash compactor. Notice a creature’s tentacle laying in the breached wall. What a nice callback to A New Hope when Han, Luke, Chewie and Leia were all trapped in a compactor with a similar creature in it.

Fire, death and destruction. This is Starkiller Base going up in flames.

And, Poe Dameron’s X-Wing fighter squadron making its final run on the base.

Marvel Star Wars Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi — Captain Phasma comic series will be a four-part run, and will include these writers and artists:
