Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) delivers scholarship to daughter of fellow veteran

In partnership with Budweiser and Folds of Honor, Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) delivered a scholarship to the daughter of a fellow veteran in need.

An interesting and once little-known fact about Adam Driver who plays Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, is that he is a veteran. In his early twenties, he enlisted and trained as a Marine; but before he could serve his country, he was medically discharged because of an injury to his sternum. After that turn of events, which was devastating to him at the time, Driver turned to acting. The rest, of course, is history.

But Driver hasn’t forgotten his former career or his old dreams. That’s why Budweiser, in partnership with a scholarship fund for veterans and their families called Folds of Honor, called on Driver to help them deliver some special news to an equally special girl, her mother and her veteran father.

Watch Driver give hardworking Hayley Grace Williams a scholarship covering all of her nursing school expenses for an entire year.

"“It means everything. I’m shaking…”"

Hayley Grace’s father, like Driver, was injured during military training and never deployed. For that reason, he felt guilty that he never got the chance to serve his country with his fellow soldiers. Driver shared and therefore understood that guilt. So the scene in the video above was a cathartic moment for both Hayley Grace, who now gets to attend nursing school without financial worries, as well as her dad who finally found a kindred spirit in Driver.

Congratulations to the Williams family. We applaud your and Driver’s sense of sacrifice and love for our country. Thank you.
