Finn teams up with the most unlikely character in The Last Jedi
Finn is kind of a big deal and new character Rose thinks so too, in The Last Jedi…
The Force Awakens was a ground breaking and record shattering film that brought live action Star Wars back to the big screen for the first time since 2005 (Revenge of the Sith). A huge contributor to its success was due to Finn, played by John Boyega.
Entertainment Weekly continues their string of amazing coverage, this time with more details on what happens to Finn after he is defeated by Kylo Ren. According to John Boyega, during The Last Jedi, Finn will awaken from his slumber with the intentions of finishing what he started, running away not only from The First Order, but fleeing from The Resistance as well.
"It got really real for him. And he just wants to get away and not be involved. His intention in the first place was to go to the Outer Rim. He was always brought back (in The Force Awakens), but this is his chance to get away and perhaps find Rey and go off together. He’s trying to do that at first.”"
Who can blame Finn for running away? He fears not only the treachery of the First Order but seems to be a little shell shocked from his humbling at the hands of Kylo Ren. Plus, getting friend-zoned by Rey at the end of the film probably didn’t help either.
Even though Luke Skywalker has evolved into a myth throughout the galaxy, the recent heroic deeds of Finn and Rey have resounded throughout the galaxy, gaining them major popularity. Both Finn and Rey have become rock-stars of a sort. Newcomer Kelly Marie Tran, who plays Rose, says that her brand new character will be in complete awe of the famous Finn.
"She’s this nobody, this background player, which is what makes her interesting. She’s not the best. She’s not royalty. She’s someone who is just like everyone else."

Back to Finn, Boyega says Finn really is a big deal now, and that everyone throughout the galaxy has heard about “the young former Stormtrooper who helped save the day,”
"“He’s a hero to people like Rose, who fight for the Resistance because their homes have been destroyed by the First Order.”"
The aspect of showing the tragedy and loss of those affected by the treachery of the First Order is going to add much emotional depth to the film.

Finn and Rose will travel to the casino-based world of Canto Bight, where I believe they will go undercover infiltrating the First Order. Director RianJohnson says to expect maybe a bit of scum and villainy from Canto but classed up a bit.
"The whole city is kind of one sort of luxury resort that’s been built on this very otherwise abandoned, arid planet. It’s like Vegas with aliens. So maybe it is just like Vegas."
Also, in The Journey to the Last Jedi, a novel on Canto Bight will be released, showing a bit of the origins and (hopefully) some Easter Eggs for The Last Jedi.
