Footage of Star Wars Battlefront II canon storyline surfaces

Footage of the Star Wars Battlefront II storyline surfaces, showing the first three missions of the canon campaign mode…

With the highly anticipated Star Wars Battlefront II set to release in less than a month, fans have been itching to even get even a glimpse of any new footage of the game. We’re in luck, with scenes and gameplay of the first-player canon story surfacing, giving us a look at the first three missions of Iden Versio and the Inferno Squad.

More from Dork Side of the Force

We are taken through Imperial eyes with Iden Versio — catch up with her origins story here —following the events of Return of the Jedi, leading all the way up to The Force Awakens. The footage is a bit out of order but does show us some intricate details of Iden’s arc. We are taken to Endor where Iden and her Inferno Squad team are on the sanctuary moon, aiding the Imperial presence against the Rebels when the unthinkable happens. The Death Star explodes once again, which Iden had seen just four years prior during the battle of Yavin with the original version of the weapon. We are given an exploration of their recon on Endor, where they are reeling from the super weapon’s destruction, where the group then travels to space just above the planet, where you can see the remnants of the second Death Star.

At some point after her recon mission, Versio is taken into enemy custody, where she escapes, aided by her shifty droid. The scene of her escaping is something out of a Mission Impossible movie, which I actually gasped when I saw it. My overall impressions of the footage make me really excited, with the gameplay seeming really smooth and easy to navigate, while the graphics make you feel like you are actually in a Star Wars movie. What really caught my eye is within that first mission of the game, there will be potential world building for the Rebel Alliance into the New Republic, with the design of the interior of the ship and soldiers walking around displaying that eventual transition. The story will take us over a course of about 25-30 within the Star Wars canon but with a different spin, through the lens of the Imperials, specifically Iden herself.

I don’t know about you, but this is the Star Wars canon story I’ve been waiting for and what better way but to do so by entering the mind of one of the most intriguing Imperial characters in the process in Iden Versio.

Pre-order the game now, with only weeks until Star Wars Battlefront II  hits stores on November 17.
