5 Questions we need answered in The Last Jedi
Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters tonight, December 14, and we’ve got some questions we hope the film answers…
With just a few hours until many Star Wars fans will be lining up at their local movie theater to see the worldwide premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, there are certain to be more than a few questions on the minds of those fans.
With so many mysteries left unsolved at the end of The Force Awakens in 2015, fans have had plenty of time to theorize, speculate and ponder those mysteries. So, before you head to the theater, let’s ask the most important questions we need to be answered in The Last Jedi.
1. Who is Rey?

One of the biggest mysteries from The Force Awakens was how a random scavenger from Jakku could be so strongly connected to the Force. With never having sat in the Mellinium Falcon’s cockpit, she is able to expertly pilot the craft, eluding and destroying several First Order TIE Fighters. She handled herself like a seasoned pilot.
Rey also displayed an uncanny ability to not only speak with droids, but she was able to make on-the-fly repairs to the Falcon when needed. This left many fans wondering if she was a Skywalker, as Anakin himself displayed these very same talents.
Then, of course, there is the fact that the familial lightsaber called to her at Maz Kanata’s castle. However, most importantly, Rey, with absolutely no training in the ways of the Force, was able to resist the mind-intrusion of Kylo Ren, a trained and experienced acolyte of the Dark Side. She used a Jedi mind trick to get a stormtrooper to release her, and during her final duel with Kylo Ren, she was able to summon the Skywalker lightsaber and defeat Kylo Ren with it.
So, will The Last Jedi finally reveal who Rey’s parents are, or at the very least, why she’s so powerful in the Force?
2. Who is Snoke and where does he come from?

Another great mystery from The Force Awakens was Supreme Leader Snoke, the leader of the First Order. He’s obviously a powerful Dark Side user, and he has been training Kylo Ren in the ways of the Dark Side.
But who is he? Director of TFA, J.J. Abrams made it quite clear that Snoke was someone or something new in Star Wars. This meant he was not, much to the dismay of Star Wars fans, Darth Plagueis.
How was Snoke able to lure Ben Solo away from Luke Skywalker’s Jedi teachings, and turn him into Kylo Ren? More important;y, how old is Snoke, how’d he get those horrific scars, and has he always been in the shadows, watching events in the galaxy unfold?
3. Can Kylo Ren be redeemed?

The easy answer to this question is: No, absolutely not! Some say Kylo Ren took the final step beyond redemption, when he killed his father Han Solo in The Force Awakens. But, what if Han somehow knew Kylo needed to kill him in order to see the Dark Side corruption and hold Supreme Leader Snoke held over him?
Still though, not only did Kylo Ren commit patricide, he killed a much-beloved Star Wars character and icon. Even if he can somehow take the first steps down the path of redemption in The Last Jedi, it will be a near-impossible task for Star Wars fans to forgive his actions.
Kylo Ren would have to do something truly heroic and selfless in The Last Jedi for there to ever be hope of redemption. Perhaps saving his mother Leia, or even going against Snoke’s wishes and saving either Luke or Rey could, in fact, be those all-important first steps.
4. Can Finn be more than the comedic and plucky sidekick?

John Boyega is a phenomenal actor, and his role in The Force Awakens helped cement his place in Hollywood as a force to be reckoned with. But can his character Finn be taken seriously enough for Star Wars fans to consider him a core member of the cast?
Finn’s story has all the compelling attributes that draw one’s attention to him. A former First Order stormtrooper who refused to take place in the slaughter of innocents, and later, a loyal friend who traveled to the enemy’s base to rescue the one person who believed in him, Finn had quite the story in TFA.
However, he spent most of that film providing some well-timed comedic relief, and was, for the most part, a sidekick to Poe, Rey, and later, Han Solo. In fact, Finn wasn’t overly brave in The Force Awakens, as he wanted to flee to the Outer Rim in order to escape its might.
Finn needs to take a step toward being the dependable and brave Resistance fighter trying to end the tyranny of the First Order, in The Last Jedi, for fans to finally take him seriously.

When Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher tragically passed away shortly after wrapping her scenes for The Last Jedi, fans of the franchise were heartbroken and wondered how director Rian Johnson would handle her death.
Johnson has since stated that Fisher’s scenes have not been altered in The Last Jedi, meaning director J.J. Abrams will have the gargantuan and unenviable task of writing an ending to one of the most beloved Star Wars characters ever created.
The question remains: Did Rian Johnson leave Leia’s fate in The Last Jedi something fans can interpret on their own? Or, will Fisher have to be legitimately written out of Episode IX? Hopefully, Leia’s legacy will be given the proper send-off Carrie Fisher deserved.
