Rian Johnson discusses Snoke’s role in The Last Jedi

Rian Johnson breaks down Snoke’s place in the galaxy for Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Rian Johnson made it clear from the beginning of Star Wars: The Last Jedi he was letting the past die, ushering in a new era of Star Wars.

Speaking of the past, Snoke has (likely) been around the galaxy for ages, one whose origins are no doubt intriguing. What is your favorite Snoke theory? Darth Plaguies is no doubt the front-runner.

If we want to know how Snoke became the powerful Dark Side baddie he is, that will have to wait for another time.

Entertainment Weekly’s Anthony Breznican catches up with the director/writer for The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson, who addresses the reason for the vagueness of Snoke’s past.

"I do think it’s interesting. I never want to poo-poo the fans coming up with theories. If there is a place for it in another story, I hope it gets told."

With Kylo Ren offing his Master, Snoke’s story is no longer relevant moving forward in the Star Wars saga.

However, with a wide variety of stories for a galaxy far, far away to be told, no doubt Snoke’s will be a top priority for the Lucasfilm story group.

More from Dork Side of the Force

A novel would be the best way for it to be told, with the ability to go deep into the Dark Side mysteries of the unknown villain.

Johnson did consider giving us the answer in The Last Jedi, but, decided against it.

"It would have stopped any of these scenes dead cold if he had stopped and given a 30-second speech about how he’s Darth Plagueis."

Wait, did Rian Johnson spill the beans on Snoke’s identity? Is he Darth Plagueis the Wise? Before getting our hopes up, Johnson quickly puts the fire out.

"And I’m not saying he’s Darth Plagueis!"

Maybe Snoke’s story will surface in the novelization for The Last Jedi, which is due out in the next few months. It could explain the reasoning behind the late release of the novel, which generally drops the same hour as their respective film.
