Star Wars: The Last Jedi showcases a version of Kylo Ren who falls deep into the depths of the Dark Side. But, is the new Supreme Leader redeemable?

*Spoilers for Star Wars: The Last Jedi*

The Skywalker lineage began with the hope of restoring balance to the galaxy, but once again is left it in darkness, after the events of The Last Jedi.

Like his grandfather, Darth Vader before him, Ben Solo — now known as Kylo Ren — has done many unspeakable acts in the name of the Dark Side of the Force.

Anakin Skywalker and Ben Solo embraced their new identities by slaughtering Jedi and burning down their respective Jedi Temples. Both became an apprentice to the most powerful Dark Side user in their respective eras.

Like his granddad before him, Kylo Ren destroys his Master, appearing to bring back Light, balance, and hope to the galaxy.

But, unlike Darth Vader, Kylo Ren’s Dark Side endeavors are now just beginning, after betraying his Master, Snoke.

Kylo Ren’s advances to convert Rey to the Darkness nearly succeed, where he will no doubt attempt to seduce her once again in Episode IX.

After facing his uncle, Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren’s hatred and anger burns like it never has before. Adding icing to the cake, Rey ignores his final advances through the Force, with the Falcon’s door closing, displaying her refusal to join him.

Chances of Ben Solo’s return to the Light Side seem all but lost. Or, do we still have hope? Rian Johnson, director/writer for The Last Jedi, seems to believe so.

"After all, the last Skywalker who fell to the Dark Side was saved in the end… Vader was worse than Kylo ever was, and Vader got redeemed."

More from Dork Side of the Force

Those statements are correct, but Kylo Ren seems to have made his final choice after killing his father, later refusing Rey calling him back to the Light.

The nail in the coffin was his final encounter with Luke Skywalker, where he seemed totally lost and consumed by the Dark Side.

Plus, we’ve already received a Skywalker redemption story before.

If Kylo Ren does come back to the Light, the only chance of Ben Solo returning is because of Rey.

However, Kylo Ren as the bad guy for a new trilogy down the road is more exciting and intriguing than a redeeming fate. Been there, done that.
