Ewan McGregor asked about Obi-Wan film, sporting Kenobi-esque beard

Hello there! A recent photo of actor Ewan McGregor working out, all the while sporting that recognizable Obi-Wan Kenobi-esque beard, has surfaced…

It is no secret that Star Wars fans greatly desire an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone Star Wars film. In fact, if you were to ask many fans, they would prefer a trilogy of Kenobi films, starring the highly talented Ewan McGregor.

Any Star Wars fan worth his or her salt knows McGregor masterfully portrayed a younger version of Obi-Wan, a character first introduced by Sir Alec Guinness in A New Hope. In fact, thanks to the Prequel Trilogy, McGregor’s Obi-Wan is most likely the more famous of the two, and the one many fans identify with the most. That’s why any time rumors of an Obi-Wan film begin to circulate, McGregor’s name is always attached.

And so, it should come as no surprise to anyone at all, that when a photo of McGregor doing a P90X workout at Tony Horton’s Fitness recently surfaced, a new hope began to spring from the hearts of fans everywhere, as the actor was rocking his Obi-Wan beard. This had to be a sign that McGregor was getting in shape to play Obi-Wan Kenobi, once again…right? Right, you guys?

Of course, there is an easy explanation for this: McGregor hasn’t shaved in a while and the beard is nothing more than the byproduct of unkempt facial hair…but where’s the fun in that? The Kenobi-mania didn’t stop there, as McGregor was asked about doing the third, untitled Star Wars standalone film — slated for 2020 — at the Golden Globes on Sunday night.

"There’s a lot of talk and I’d be happy to play him [Obi-Wan Kenobi] again, but I don’t know any more about it than you do. There’s no…um…plan at the moment. I loved the new one [Star Wars: The Last Jedi]. I saw the new one over Christmas and I thought it was really, really beautiful, I loved it."

So, this is confirmation that Ewan McGregor has, in fact, begun filming the first in a trilogy of Obi-Wan films. I kid, I kid.

The actor won the Golden Globe for his dual portrayal of brothers Ray and Emmit Stussy on the FX anthology series — Fargo. It was the third time he’s been nominated. Congratulations, Ewan, we hope to see you on Tatooine, in 2020.
