In a bit of news that should come as no surprise to anyone, Solo: A Star Wars Story will show how Han and Chewbacca first met…

When Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters this May, fans will get to see how Han Solo first met his life-long pal and Mellinium Falcon co-pilot, Chewbacca. Hot off a Disney released press kit, a sparse yet revealing plot for the film was given.

"Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes."

More from Dork Side of the Force

While we already knew Solo: A Star Wars Story would reveal how Han and Lando meet, and how Han wins the Falcon from Lando, we only assumed we’d get the first-ever meeting between Han and Chewie. Well, now, we have confirmation.

The question now remains: How will Disney/Lucasfilm tell the story of Han and Chewbacca’s first encounter? As The Hollywood Reporter points out, the story was told in 2000, with the Dark Horse comic book miniseries, Star Wars: Chewbacca. Of course, that story is now considered “Legends,” but it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for Lucasfilm to breathe new life into that old expanded universe.

In that series, Han Solo is stormtrooper who encounters Chewbacca after boarding a slaver’s ship. Han’s officer demands that he skin the Wookiee and bring him the pelt, but Han refuses. The rest, as they say, is history.
