In Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Kylo Ren embraces the future, letting the past die. Moving forward, will he become more powerful than his grandfather, Darth Vader?
Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to. The motto of Kylo Ren, and the entirety of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, for that matter. Moving forward, Kylo Ren will no doubt embrace his role as Supreme Leader — after killing Snoke, taking that mantle from him.
But, will Kylo Ren finish what his grandfather, Darth Vader started? Will he rule the galaxy and finally be able to kill the last Jedi — which is now Rey?
To accomplish these goals, Kylo Ren must become more powerful than Darth Vader. He must embrace a few things. Is he strong enough to pull it off?
He took his first step into a larger world by killing his father Han Solo, but as Snoke said, that act left him unbalanced, splitting his spirit in the process. Fast forward a few standard days later, Kylo Ren was unable to pull the trigger, which would have killed his mother, with his hesitation revealing he has much-conflict — which Rey pointed out to him later on.
It’s ironic that Kylo Ren calls Rey out for holding on to the past and not letting go, while refuses in doing the same. His hypocrisy shines as bright as the twin sun of Tatooine. He must finally and fully embrace the Dark Side of the Force. He must kill Rey and his mother to become entirely consumed by it.
Even though Kylo Ren feels that letting the Sith die is a necessary evil, he must embrace the teachings in which it provides. The source of his raw Dark Side power spawned from the Sith -specifically Darth Vader when he destroyed Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Order.

Setting up shop on Mustafar is the next step on his journey, where residing in Darth Vader’s castle would allow him to tap deep into the Darkness. That very castle foundation of the castle is built upon a former Sith temple, with the Dark Side flowing from the planet’s core. It’s also where the remnants of Anakin Skywalker burnt away — well mostly.
Kylo Ren will also need to delve deep into the Dark Side Holocrons of Darth Bane, Revan, and other Sith long gone. For him to become more powerful than Darth Vader ever dreamed of, he must embrace the Sith Order and its teachings. I believe he will do so, finally becoming the menacing “Force” of the galaxy.
Episode IX will likely skip ahead a few years in the timeline, and when we meet Kylo Ren, he will, in fact, finally be the powerful baddie of the Star Wars universe. No more conflict is remaining. Instead of wanting Rey to join him, he’ll seek to destroy her now.
Those words in which he bluffed to his uncle Luke on Crait will finally be true of him. Kylo Ren must destroy her, the Jedi. He must wipe away all of it. Kylo Ren will rule the galaxy, which will carry on into the next trilogy — where he and Rey will exchange blows for decades to come. Sith vs. Jedi, once again.
