Obi-Wan Kenobi film reportedly has a plot and director confirmed
An Obi-Wan Kenobi stand-alone film director is confirmed, and plot of the film revealed, according to recent reports by TMZ. Are these rumblings true? We get to the bottom of it.
If Solo: A Star Wars Story is the Star Wars film that “no one” wanted, an Obi-Wan Kenobi film is one that “everyone” wants. Thus far, an Obi-Wan standalone supposedly has a working title called “The Joshua Tree,” a director for the film in Stephen Daldry, and George Lucas is rumored to be scouting out locations for filming.
Ewan McGregor even expressed recent interest in reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi and is looking very Kenobi-like of late.
However, without official confirmation from Lucasfilm and the Star Wars powers to be, these Obi-Wan Kenobi talks may be just jibberish. But, where there is sand, I mean smoke, there is undoubtedly fire.
With talks of a Lando Calrissian film nearly breaking the Internet yesterday, an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie would be the straw that breaks the camels back.
According to TMZ, Obi-Wan Kenobi does, in fact, have a director, with Stephen Daldry as rumored before, and the movie has a plot synopsis — which they paraphrase.
"More from Dork Side of the ForceDaniel José Older named a High Republic Adventures character after someone specialHow animation changed Star Wars: Ewoks and DroidsKelleran Beq comes to Star Wars: Galaxy of HeroesThe Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal becomes No. 1 on IMDb’s Starmeter for 2023Unwrapping the Star Wars LEGO Advent Calendar: Day 7Obi-Wan is on Tatooine being an elusive hermit and stuff but secretly watches over an infant Luke Skywalker, whom he delivered to his uncle, Owen. Tensions between the local farmers and a tribe of Sand People — headed by a ruthless war chief — eventually brings Obi outta hiding … and into Jedi kickass mode."
Reportedly, the movie will take place close to the events of Star Wars: A New Hope and likely brand the cutting-edge title of “Obi-Wan: A Star Wars Story.”
The synopsis is one out of the Star Wars Legends vault, sounding very much like the Kenobi novel by John Jackson Miller — which is fantastic. Also, the recent Marvel Star Wars comic run visits old Ben Kenobi on Tatooine and the plot sounds much like that story arc.
Before we go any further, we need to know if we can trust these reports from TMZ. Are they reliable? Even though TMZ is known at times for being sleazy and they operate much like the paparazzi, their sources are almost always spot on.
They never make stuff up, that’s for sure. During The Force Awakens, TMZ released accurate photo leaks from the set of the film. Their methods are more of the ways of the Dark Side and the Sith, but they get the job done.
What should we make of these rumblings? Should we take them with a grain of sand? Yes and no. With so many leaks surfacing for the film, it’s almost certainly happening.
Even though nothing is officially confirmed in regards to Ewan McGreggors involvement, Lucasfilm undoubtedly knows that it’s Ewan or bust — or they would have an even angrier mob and riot on their hands than they do now.
Next: Solo cameo will blow your mind
The next step is for Lucasfilm to make an official announcement, which they should have done last year at Star Wars Celebration Orlando. What in the world are you all waiting for, Lucasfilm? We want Obi-Wan Kenobi, and we want Obi-Wan now!
It’s likely they are waiting to drop the news at Star Wars Celebration 2019 in Chicago, which for a moment would bring the divided Star Wars fandom together.
