Rumors are buzzing that Maul may appear in an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone film. How is this possible?
So the rumors are true, Darth Maul is alive? Well, formerly Darth, now just Maul. For those of you late to the party, Obi-Wan Kenobi did not kill Maul on Tatooine.
Before selling the Star Wars franchise to Disney, George Lucas created the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars — possibly the best thing made in a galaxy far, far away. Ever.
One thing that Lucas was able to do in Star Wars: The Clone Wars that he could not accomplish in his films was extensive world building of the franchise — which The Clone Wars did beautifully. Tapping into his creative mind, George Lucas took many chances with the series, with such risk generating a high reward.
A prime example was in bringing Maul back to life, one met with much fan pushback, at first. The former Sith embracing his inner Lazurus turned out to be a fantastic idea, one that continues to live on within the Star Wars franchise.
According to Ray Park, who played Maul in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, an Obi-Wan Kenobi film is almost certainly happening. With all of the Obi-Wan rumors buzzing this is no surprise, but it’s exciting to hear someone connected so intimately to the franchise undoubtedly confirm these rumblings.
Star Wars fan David Weisner claims that Ray Park (Maul) told him this at a recent Comicpoolza event:
"When he mentioned Kenobi, he leaned over and mentioned how he really thinks (emphasis on REALLY) it’s going to happen."
With the manifestation of Maul in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels, and a few epic comic runs, an appearance in an Obi-Wan film is possible.
The aura of Maul even connects to the plot of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Maul appears in Solo: A Star Wars Story as the puppeteer behind the scenes controlling Dryden Vos and the crime syndicate group Crimson Dawn.
The Solo film takes place before Maul’s appearance in Star Wars Rebels and his involvement within the criminal underworld is no surprise to us who have watched/read the Star Wars canon material outside of the films.
Even though Maul popping up in Solo is fantastic fan service, there must be a more profound purpose. Maul is undoubtedly primed to appear in a Star Wars film — likely an Obi-Wan themed story.

You can’t keep a bad Sith down for long, and Maul keeps invading a galaxy far, far away. The more Maul, the better, and it would be cool to see Lucasfilm work their magic in getting him into an Obi-Wan Kenobi Star Wars film, recreating that one particular scene from the animated realm!
