New Star Wars: Resistance short introduces us to the Aces

Star Wars: Resistance is less than a month away and Disney just dropped a video highlighted by its new “Aces.”

With the premiere date of October 7th just a few short weeks away, Star Wars: Resistance is slowly creeping up on us. Today, Disney dropped a new teaser that highlights a new team of pilots known as “The Aces.”

Unlike previously released images and videos, such as the oddball bunch of Team Fireball, this video focuses on the seasoned vets of the show that are as, Dave Filoni, the show’s creator, explains, “Are a group of pilots among the best in the galaxy.”

The group consists of five pilots that are tasked with protecting the refueling depot Colossus. The hot-shot aces all sport their own customized ships and when they are not being used to protect against common threats, they’re being raced for fun and bragging rights, providing us a look at the team’s competitive streak.

Star Wars: Resistance takes place several months before the events of The Force Awakens, following a young pilot named Kazuda Xiono who is personally tasked by Poe Dameron to spy on the First Order. The new trailer introduces us to new pilots, Torra Doza, Hype Fazon, Freya Fenris, Griff Halloran and Bo Keevil.

Something to take note of with the few bits and trailers that have come to light, the anime style show will seem to take us away from the Jedi and The Force. Instead, focusing on the life of the pilots which has always been a major thread to the Star Wars Universe.

It’s an interesting take on a universe that has so many of its leading members as former top gun style fly-boys, everyone from Anakin to Luke Skywalker have more than held their own in the cockpit. Not to mention the long string of ships and freighters that have been a major part of the world since the early George Lucas days.

The new series seems to have caused a back and forth within the Star Wars Community, some railing against the style as others stressing trust the direction of its creator Filoni. Filoni who has earned some goodwill with his work in The Clone Wars animated series, which is also making a return for its final run.

But, you can decide for yourself with the one-hour premiere , slated for 10pm on Sunday, October 7 on the Disney Channel.
