Star Wars comic shows Anakin kill Mace Windu and Grand Master Yoda

Anakin going head to head with the Jedi was something we never seen, but wanted. Until now that is with Star Wars comic Darth Vader No. 25.

Charles Soule’s run of Darth Vader comics has been a huge delight for Star Wars fans. With each new issue, we have had something to discuss and debate over for months on end. In the most recent, and final, issue of the series, Darth Vader No. 25, we have had more than usual to talk about, including how Anakin takes on all of the Jedi singlehandedly, including Mace Windu and Grand Master Yoda.

A moment which never occurred in the Star Wars movies, but if I’m honest, something I think should have happened. But that’s just me.

I think it is important to point out, that at this point in the Star Wars story, this is Anakin Skywalker, rather than Darth Vader. He might look, act, and sound like Vader. And the comic series is set after Revenge of the Sith, but Anakin has not yet truly become Vader yet. At least not fully anyway. Part of him is still the Jedi he once was and has not yet become the Vader we know from A New Hope.

And that is the journey the comic series by Charles Soule takes us on. It shows the transition of Anakin slowly becoming non-existent and becoming Darth Vader. With each new edition, Anakin becomes less Anakin and more Vader, and in the final copy of the comic series, Darth Vader No. 25 we see him finally becoming the Sith Lord.

Which is where the whole Anakin killing Mace Windu, Grand Master Yoda, and the rest of the Jedi come in to play.

In the issue, we see Anakin step through the divide between life and death on the planet Mustafar in his attempt to bring back Padme. During his journey in, “the void” as I am going to call it, Anakin, is shown memory after memory of his past. One of them being his father, although that is up for debate.

As he continues his journey to find Padme he eventually runs into all of the Jedi he once called master, friend, and so forth. In order to continue his journey, he must pass by them. So he draws on two lightsaber blades and duels. We then get the duels that never occurred in the Star Wars movies, which ends with Anakin killing everyone, including Mace Windu and Grand Master Yoda.

In the end though, it was all for nothing. No matter what Anakin did Padme could not be saved. Even once he finds her, he still cannot save her. And this is the turning point for Anakin. After everything he did, he cannot change how things ended. Padme is still dead, as are the Jedi. And this is when Anakin dies, and Darth Vader is born.
