Report: No Star Wars: Episode IX trailer during Super Bowl
The fandom will have to wait until after the big game for the first look at Star Wars: Episode IX, according to a recent report.
The first Star Wars: Episode IX trailer won’t air during the Super Bowl on Feb. 3, according to Deadline Hollywood.
Rumors had been swirling of a possible release during the big game, but it’s looking more and more like that’s not the case. Had Disney decided to air the spot, it would’ve been the second Super Bowl in a row with a Star Wars trailer, following the Solo trailer from last February.

This makes sense when you think about it, especially considering that Solo‘s spot was released about three months before the movie itself. With Episode IX, we’re just under a year away from its premiere, so a trailer during the Super Bowl would be surprisingly early.
It’s likely we see a trailer in April, in time for Star Wars Celebration.
Believe me, I completely understand why people are looking forward to the teaser. I’m hyped for it too, but mostly just because I want to see what the title is going to be. Let’s be honest–the trailer probably isn’t going to give us much to work with. Yeah, we’ll see the usual X-wings and lightsabers, but I’m guessing that’ll be about it.
I keep thinking back to when the Avengers: Endgame trailer came out; there could be some parallels once we see the Episode IX teaser. The Endgame trailer was great for the first couple viewings, but then I sat back and thought “what is this really giving me besides the title?” I’m thinking that could be the case once the Episode IX trailer drops.
If I was a betting man, I’d say that we’ll get out first look at Episode IX sometime during March Madness or a little bit after. I’m all for seeing it sooner than that, but this report from Deadline seems to suggest that this year’s Super Bowl will focus on projects such as the Fast & Furious spin-off Hobbs & Shaw.
